Managing Gen Y – Social Media Influence

Social Media

In a recent infographic created by the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and the Young Entrepreneurs Council shows reveals how social media and technology may change the workplace culture. Social media will be as much a part of an organization’s lifestyle as much as computers have changed the workplace!

Here are some highlights:

  • 1 in 3 Millennials said “social media freedom” is a higher priority than salary
  • 64% ask about social media policies during a job interview

It’s also interesting on how aspects of social media (e.g. real-time info, larger world-view, more informed, etc)  may have influenced their perspective in other areas of life:

  • 80% of millennials said they would prefer feedback in real time rather than via traditional performance reviews
  • 92% of surveyed 21-24 year-olds said entrepreneurship education was vital in the new economy
  • 65% of millennials said personal development was the most influential factor in their current job
